Laboratory

iGene has two main areas, the Laboratory area and the Clinical area. The laboratory area is where tests are ordered, carried out results stored and lab reports generated.

The laboratory area consists of:

  • Lab Referrals
  • Samples
  • Tests
  • Cultures
  • Slides
  • Results (Chromosome Analysis, FISH, Genomics Result, Custom Test Result)
  • Sample Reports

The main container for all items within the Laboratory section is the referral. A referral groups all the information related to an investigation on a patient.

A patient can have multiple referrals of any type, for example one referral might be regarding infertility the other about cancer.

The Laboratory area of the application is located in the main menu called ‘Laboratory’. Clicking this will reveal a list of sub menu items:

Laboratory Menu

  • Lab Referral - This is used mainly by admin staff, it is where referrals are entered and the administration is handled.
  • Setup - The setup screen is normally used by laboratory staff. From here it’s easy to see the tests and what samples have been triaged. The screen has the ability to begin creating cultures.
  • Worksheets - The worksheets area of iGene. This is used in conjunction with the custom tests in order to perform molecular, NGS testing or any other tests which are handled in batches.
  • Cultures - Lists all the cultures within the application. It handles culture management, for example: steps such as feeding or harvesting can be performed.
  • Slides - Normally used by FISH departments it lists all the slides within the application. Steps can be performed within this section such as banding the slides.
  • FISH Setup - Lists all the slides with probes added to them.
  • Results/Tests - This screen lists all tests/orders performed. It is good for accessing as a worklist.
  • Reports - Lists all the reports created from laboratory section of the application. New reports can be created here as well.
  • Sign Off - Lists all the items which require sign off by a user with appropriate permissions.

The screens in this section will depend on which site the user is from. Some fields might not be visible to all users as they may have been hidden.
