The Unit Types preference is used to record a list of unit types in the system. These are found when adding a sample to a lab referral. The choice of values are selected using an autocomplete or dropdown list.

The table of Unit Types will display the code, name, and status for the unit type.
When adding or editing a unit type, users are presented with the below form to complete. Always press Save in the bottom right-hand corner of the browser after adding or editing a unit type.

A unique code for the unit type. This can be the same as the name but must be unique throughout the entire system.
A name for the unit type. It is advisable to keep this unique.
A dropdown list of unit types to assign to the unit type. This is set within the system and cannot be changed. The options are Weight, Volume, and Quantity.
A text field to enter the conversion rate for the unit type. This is used to convert the unit type to the system default unit type. For example, for a Unit Type of kilogram, if the unit type is set to Weight and the conversion is set to 1000, then 1kg will be converted to 1000g, providing that a Gram is also set with a conversion of 1.
A text field to enter the display unit for the unit type. This is used to display the unit type in the system.
A checkbox to indicate if the unit type is a sample unit.
A checkbox to activate/deactivate an entry. If the preference is not active, it will not be selectable in any drop-down lists.
