Patient Number Types

The Patient Number Types preference is used to record a list of patient number types in the system. These are found within the Patient Details page and are used to categorize the different types of patient numbers that can be assigned to a patient.

The table of Patient Number Types will display the code, name, and status for the patient number type.

Configuration

When adding or editing a patient number type, users are presented with the below form to complete. Always press Save in the bottom right-hand corner of the browser after adding or editing a patient number type.

Edit Patient Number Type

Code (Required, Unique)

A unique code for the patient number type. This can be the same as the name but must be unique throughout the entire system.

Active

A checkbox to activate/deactivate an entry. If the preference is not active, it will not be selectable in any drop-down lists.

Name (Required)

A name for the patient number type. It is advisable to keep this unique.

Use Nomenclature

A checkbox to indicate if the patient number type should be used as a nomenclature. If selected, the patient number type will be available in the Nomenclature preference. NOTE: if trying to use the patient number type before setting up the nomenclature, this will result in an error.

Is Secure Field

A checkbox to indicate if the patient number type should be treated as a secure field. If selected, the patient number type will be censored with asterisks (*) when displayed in the system unless the “Reveal” button is clicked. This is useful for sensitive information such as social security numbers.

Is Unique

A checkbox to indicate if the patient number type should be unique. If selected, the patient number type will be checked for uniqueness when adding or editing a patient number. If a duplicate is found, an error message will be displayed.
