iGene Home Folder

iGene requires a home folder in order to store some required files. These are normally located away from the operating system on the server. The contents of this folder is:

  • sequences - The number sequences which are using iGene. This is a balloon filter and is persisted to the hard drive periodically in order to maintain its state.
  • defaultStoragePool - The default storage pool is the location where all the data is stored in iGene which does not belong in the database such as attachments to patient records. This can be moved if needed.
  • config - A flat file that has the configuration for iGene which is required to run for example, the database connection details.
  • logback.xml - A file which instructs the logger on which items to output. The log level for this is set to ‘error’ by default. Changing this to ‘warning’ will give additional debugging information. The logback file can be changed whilst the application is running and will refresh every 60 seconds.
  • templates - The location of the report templates used in iGene. This is where the Jaspersoft Studio templates are stored and can be changed.

How iGene Finds This Folder

iGene does not search for the home folder, it is told where it is. Tomcat passes the location through the igene_home context parameter, which is set in a file inside the Tomcat installation:

C:\path\to\tomcat\conf\Catalina\localhost\ROOT.xml

See Install iGene for how to create it, and note that it needs carrying across whenever Tomcat is reinstalled or updated.
